I recently heard the term “albatross” while watching a golf tournament and it sounded like a very rare achievement. What exactly does an albatross mean in golf scoring? Also, how often does it happen compared to something like an eagle or a hole-in-one?

An albatross in golf, often referred to as a double eagle, is when a player scores three strokes under par on a single hole. For instance, if you make a 2 on a par-5 hole, that's considered an albatross. It's a pretty rare feat and happens far less often than an eagle or a hole-in-one. In fact, most golfers might go their entire lives without ever achieving one!
