I’ve been trying to understand how weight classes work in International Powerlifting Federation competitions and how athletes are categorized. There seem to be multiple divisions for men and women, but I’m not sure about the exact breakdown. How do these weight classes impact competition and performance? Would love to hear from anyone familiar with IPF rules and categories!

In competitions held by the International Powerlifting Federation, weight classes are organized by gender. For men, the classes are 59, 66, 74, 83, 93, 105, 120, and 120+ kg. On the women's side, the classes include 47, 52, 57, 63, 69, 76, 84, and 84+ kg. These categories are designed to promote fair competition by grouping lifters who have similar body weights.

In competitions held by the International Powerlifting Federation, men can compete in weight classes of 59, 66, 74, 83, 93, 105, 120, and 120+ kg. On the other hand, women have their own categories, which include 47, 52, 57, 63, 69, 76, 84, and 84+ kg. These weight classes are designed to promote fair competition among lifters who are similar in body weight.

In International Powerlifting Federation, men’s classes go from 59 kg up to 120+ kg and women’s from 47 kg to 84+ kg, so you compete with lifters close to your body weight. It keeps things fair, but also pushes strategy since cutting or bulking can really affect your strength on meet day.
